What is a credit card?

A credit card is an account that gives you an agreed amount of credit. You can use it to pay for goods and services online, in shops or over the phone and make withdrawals (there is a charge for this service).

What is it used for? Typically credit cards are used for short term borrowing because, over a longer period, they’re generally more expensive. 

You must be at least 18 years old to apply for a credit card.

How to pay your credit card bill

Paying your credit card from your current account

You can pay your credit card bill from your current account in the following ways:

Internet, Mobile and Telephone Banking 

You will need to set up a single or regular payment to pay your credit card online.

Debit card

To make a payment using your Rafidain Bank debit card, call us on +44 783 974 9373. Our opening hours are:

Mon to Fri 8am - 10pm
Sat 8am - 8pm
Sun 9am - 5pm

Payments received before 5pm are usually credited the next working day (Monday to Friday. Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays are not working days). Payments received after 5pm will take longer.

By cheque

Pay with a Direct Debit 

To pay by Direct Debit call us on +44 783 974 9373.

You have 3 payment options:

1. If you choose to pay the minimum amount, the minimum payment due will be taken. 

2. If you choose to pay your total account balance, the outstanding account balance when your statement was produced will be taken. 

3. You can choose to pay a set amount each month. If this set amount is less than the minimum payment due, we will take the minimum payment.

The Direct Debit arrangement is confirmed on your next credit card statement, but please continue to pay by your usual method until you receive this.

How do I change my payment online?

If you're registered for the Internet Bank you can change your Direct Debit online:


  1. Log in to the Internet Bank
  2. Select your credit card
  3. Choose 'Other account services' from the options in the left hand navigation
  4. Select 'Amend Direct Debit' within Account services
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions

Please note that you might need to make payments manually while we are processing your Direct Debit changes.

Pay from another bank or building society

From another bank or building society

If you'd like to set up a Direct Debit or make a one off payment from your bank or building society, they'll need the following details:

  • sort code: 073012 
  • account number: 00001604, and 
  • your 16 digit credit card number

Additional credit card information

Rafidain Bank and Select Credit Cards

Where there is a balance on an account, the minimum monthly payment must be equal to any default charges and interest due on your statement plus 1% of the remaining statement balance, or £25, whichever is the greater.

Classic, Gold and Cash Reward credit cards

The minimum payment will be as per your terms and conditions.

You can share the benefits of your account with a family member and have an additional card for them to use. They must be over 18 and it’s important to remember that you will be responsible for the card and how it's used.  This means:

  • You are responsible for all transactions, even if you disapprove of them.
  • The PIN should never be disclosed on the additional card.
  • Your account is charged with any transactions the additional cardholder makes.
  • Only you can access and view your account online.
  • We will not disclose or discuss your account details to the additional cardholder without your written authority.
  • You are responsible for ensuring the additional cardholder uses the card correctly and in accordance with your credit card terms & conditions.

  2. Select your Credit Card
  3. Find 'Add credit card holder' link on the left of the screen
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions

Cancel an additional card

Please call us to cancel an additional credit card on your account on:

Your current interest rate can be found at the bottom of your statement within the 'Interest Summary' table. In this table it will show your interest breakdown including: Balance Transfer, Purchase and Cash interest rates. 

Interest is charged if you do not pay off your balance in full each month.

It's charged at the applicable rate on all transactions from the date they are applied to your account until you repay everything you owe.

When you receive your statement it will include an estimate of the interest that will be due at the time of your next payment if you do not pay off your balance in full and on time.
